Statement by Eric Linzer, President and CEO —“Government-Run Health Care the Wrong Approach”

“Every New Yorker deserves coverage for high-quality, affordable health care, and our state has been successful in providing insurance coverage to more than 95% of state residents in large part due to the work of our member health plans in implementing the Affordable Care Act and New York’s ambitious Medicaid Redesign program.

“We are committed to continuing to work with state lawmakers, policymaker and others to achieve the goal of universal coverage, but the New York Health Act is the wrong approach. It would create a government-run system that would require massive tax increases and take away options currently available to seniors and other New Yorkers.

“New York’s health care costs are already among the highest in the nation. While more work is needed to address the cost of health care, a government-run system would do nothing to ease the burden on New York residents and employers, leading to higher taxes, limiting access to care, and restricting choice.”
